About jo

We are a wonderful (even though way say so ourselves!) little family run Italian restaurant located right in the heart of Glasgow City Centr

What’s going on?

One month from today on Friday 9th November, will see Don Costanzo celebrate it’s first birthday in our new location. Can’t believe it has already been a year, time has flown past so quickly!

You may already know that we are celebrating it in style with the first of our live music nights happening on that very day. We have enlisted the help of a singer called Pino Leto who will be providing the entertainment for that night (apart from Costanzo, who provides the entertainment every other night!). Pino sings a variety of Italian and swing music to suit everyone’s taste and we are sure that it will be a fantastic night. Of course, the food is the priority, and that, rest assured, will be excellent as usual. You will be greeted on arrival with a glass of our best prosecco, followed by a 5 course set menu with choices of the best from our normal a la carte menu. The evening starts 7 for 7.30pm and ends at midnight for the cost of £45.00 per person.

Friday 9th November is now already fully booked we are pleased to say but we are now taking bookings for our next Italian Swing Night which will be held on the last Friday of every month from January 2013. The date of our next live music night is Friday 25th January 2013 and Pino will again be providing the entertainment. No excuses now for having dull, dismal January, great music, fantastic food, fun atmosphere, we will have it all. Please call 0141 332 3070 for advance bookings.

Now I hate to be the bearer of bad news but scary thought coming up, there are only 76 days until Christmas, already! We’ve been trying to delay the inevitable and forget that Christmas is looming but with the amount of phone calls we are getting for particular dates in December, we cannot avoid it any longer. If you haven’t booked your Christmas lunch or dinner yet, then the time has come. Whether it be a small gathering of family or friends, a meal with colleagues or just an excuse for a night out, then we have a delicious Christmas lunch and dinner menu available in December. Of course, if you are in a smaller party, you may prefer our A La Carte Menu with more to choose from, you decide, but whatever your choice, we are sure that we can help you celebrate your Christmas in style. This year we will be closed between Christmas and New Year so our last day for bookings will be Saturday 22nd December so please book early!

Lots going on in Glasgow in the coming months. A few minutes walk from us at the Kings Theatre Glasgow, from 9th October to 13th October sees the start of the production “I Dreamed a Dream” the Susan Boyle story starring Elaine C Smith as Susan. We had one of the cast members in last week during rehearsals and he told us tickets are selling out fast, must be a good one. If you happen to be going along, remember, we are only a few minutes walk away from The Kings Theatre, leaving you enough time to have a nice dinner before you go to the Kings. Also on in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall tonight, Daniel O Donnell, the Irish answer to Sydney Devine! He has a huge following, maybe not to everyone’s taste but I am sure they will be screaming in the aisles tonight for him, take it while you can Daniel! Saturday 17th November will be a very special date in the diaries of many of our customers who were privileged enough to know the late Mr Paul McBride QC. Paul’s parents, in memory of their son, have arranged a lavish fund-raising ball to be held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel to raise money for a cause close to Paul’s heart, anti-sectarianism for the charity Nil by Mouth. Money raised from the ball will go to both this charity and Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital in Glasgow. Many of our customers have taken tables for this event and I am sure that not only will it be a great opportunity to raise awareness for the charity, but also a way for Paul’s friends and family to come together and remember what a great man he was. We wish them all the very best for their fundraising and hope that the night is a huge success. If you wish to make a donation to this tribute to Paul, they can made to the following account – A Tribute To Paul McBride QC; Bank of Scotland account number 10504369; sort code 80-22-60.

One of our lovely, long time customers, will be featured on BBC1 on Wednesday 10th October at 9pm. The actress Celia Imrie will be the next celebrity tracing her roots on the fantastic programme Who Do You Think You Are. Sadly for us, the programme makers decided to trace Celia’s mothers side as had they gone for her father’s side, it would have led Celia back to Glasgow where her father was from. Celia visited us last year with Fidelis Morgan just before we opened Don Costanzo, arriving with a beautiful bunch of flowers for Costanzo and she had hoped to be returning to Glasgow when filming commenced for Who Do You Think You Are had they traced her fathers ancestors. Hopefully she can make that trip back up to Glasgow again soon where we can offer her a bit more than a packet of crisps and a Campari Soda as we did on her last visit!

Before I finish up the blog for today, a special mention needs to be made for our friends at Weir Group. The Weir Group have been coming to us for years, both at the Caprese and now to Don Costanzo. They have employees from all over the globe based in Glasgow and they frequently visit us for a bite to eat for both business and pleasure. Saturday night seen us saying goodbye to one of their staff, Mr Jenkins, who was returning back to Australia with his lovely family. One of his colleagues, Fraser Park (another long-term customer) kindly arranged his goodbye dinner with us, presenting him with a painting of something to forever remind him of his time in Glasgow, a painting of the entrance to Don Costanzo! We wish Mr Jenkins and his family all the very best of luck with his return to Oz and we will miss them so much! A big thank you to Fraser for arranging everything for the dinner, a difficult task since he has now re-located to Boston, so well done.

That’s all for now but I promise to keep the blog regularly updated from now on, difficult as it is to find the time! See you all soon hopefully!

Summer Holidays Reminder!

Just a quick message to everyone to remind you that as we always did at the Caprese, we will be closing for our summer break at the beginning of July and re-opening at the beginning of August.

Last day for us will be Saturday 30th June and opening back up at the beginning of August so hopefully we will see some of you before we close up and if not have a fantastic summer and we will see you when we get back!  Happy Holidays to all!
